What Size Filter Fits In A Climatemaster Tranquility 27

  1. I've had a continuing column open loop system running for 2 years now, using 3-ton and 2-ton Carrier (Climatemaster) Repose 27 units. Operation has been cracking and in my 2600 sq ft house in Massachusetts I oasis't needed whatsoever backup.

I run most 1.ane million gallons per year through the system. Unfortunately my well water has fine sediment and I'thousand looking for a better filter solution.

For the drink h2o house filter, I use standard 5 micron double-high spun or blown catridges which last iii months as they should. However, I can't use cartridges for the geothermal since I would be changing them every week or more than. So I use a spin-down filter with a 60 mesh screen (~250 micron). I found that greater than 60 mesh (smaller micron) and it would plug fast, and a smaller than 60 mesh (larger micron) the larger particles would get stuck in the control valves causing leakage.

About every 2-iii weeks this filter requires hand washing of the screen to become the fine sediment off, although I have very piffling coarser sediment collected in the filter sump. As the filter gets clogged the flow reduces eventually shutting downward the units for cold or hot temps. I usually wake up to find un-conditioned air blowing and know the filter has just clogged up.

And so I am looking for suggestions on water filter options that don't need as much maintenance. All my searches haven't found annihilation that looks right.

  2. I have 2 3 ton Repose 27s on an open loop with a little bit of fine sand in the h2o. Each unit has a Rusco spin downwardly filter with the lx mesh stainless filter screen. (100 mesh chock-full very quickly, and the polyester mesh just didn't stand up up to the dust in the water). It seems I need to launder the filters virtually once a month, regardless of how often I open up the flush valve at the bottom of the filter housing.

I was considering adding either the Rusco automatic flush valve or switching the housing to a similar EcoPure sediment filter that has an automatic affluent valve built in, but it really seems that no dirt actually gets removed from the filter past opening the flush valve - the grit all only stays fastened to the filter mesh until I scrub the mesh with soap and water.

I've looked a fleck for other options, but I'm not sure I've establish anything that seems much ameliorate. I wonder if something similar a Lakos SandMax or SandMaster centrifugal filter might be a more maintenance free pick, but I'm reluctant to take the plunge on something like that without knowing if it would brand any deviation.

  3. Then it sounds like you are in the same situation.

Every bit you did, I also was using the threescore mesh stainless screen as the polyester doesn't stand up.
I actually bought the Ecopure automatic flushing filter. Withal this comes with a threescore micron stainless filter which is way smaller than the 60 mesh (google to detect conversion nautical chart). This plugs upwardly in less than 2 days and I'g disappointed with the flush organisation which wasn't designed to backflush the screen.

I have ordered the largest opening filter they make at 150 microns (about 100 mesh) and will see what happens. For one thing, the Ecopure screen has about twice the surface surface area.

One matter I would do would exist to certain I wasn't running more than water than need be. Ensure you reduce flow during 1st stage cycles. Physically larger filters or 2 in paralell may put off cleaning requirement to monthly in which case you lot can merely manage information technology as a once a month chore.
  5. Yep, in my example with 42 deg F entering water, I accept Y1 from the thermostat attached to a 1st stage water valve and 6gpm period restrictor, and Y2 fastened to a parallel 2nd stage water valve and 3 gpm menstruum restrictor.

This video purports to show a better spindown-blazon water filter product that does really backflush, but I dunno how much of this is but marketing hype.

    I was skeptical...
Later seeing that video I am sold. I allways prefer trying to eliminate problems at the source, simply that is non allways possible with what you are given to work with in the lithology.

This filter looks like a keeper.

  7. Here is a curt term report on the EcoPure automatic sediment filter.
Model EPASF1 found here which I bought through a special order at Lowes.

    ecopure Water Products

The stock 60 micron filter was a total failure, plugging in less than two days. I ordered the largest screen size they had at 150 microns, or 100 mesh. This ways information technology has better filtration than my 60 mesh spin down filter.

The filter itself is stainless steel with a expanse of 56.1 sq in while the Rusco spin down filter has a surface area of 33.iv sq in. Correct away that is a huge increase in area.

So far so good. At that place is no sign of any fine sediment collection on the screen and the automatic wash feature cleans out the collected coarse material on the bottom. I'm going to provide a long term written report when I know more. I would think this would foul up at a rate similar to the spin-downwards just with added time for the greater surface surface area, just I accept a feeling it volition be longer.

Obviously, I remember the platonic state of affairs is having the EcoPure unit using an automatic twist clean top of the Lakos unit. If that existed, the water filter would likely be a total prepare and forget unit and the go-to filter for every open up loop geothermal system.

  8. Lakos sandmaster plus

We have installed the lakos sandmaster plus when the rusco spin downs do not practise the play a trick on on sediment producing wells.

  9. And so here is an intermediate report on the Ecopure automatic sediment filter.

Again, I am using the 150 micron (100 mesh) filter which is the smallest screen size they offer correct now. Initially I had the motorcar-flush set on every 4 days. That failed after nearly x days when the filter plugged with fine silt. However, I noticed that during the process of flushing, the filter turns on/off 3 times very abruptly. The wiggle from the on/off of the water pressure through the flush hose actually knocks some fine sediment off the filter.

I ready the filter to flush everyday. This way fine silt would not be able to accumulate as easily. So far so expert. I am now at 6 weeks without touching it and the filter is still all articulate.

My ultimate goal here is to accept a h2o filter that I would clean out perhaps every 6 months or even one time a year.

  10. Glad to know this ecopure is still working. If it fails, await into the lakos sand master plus. We have never had any problems with the them at all , and information technology has a automatic flush valve too. But they are more than pricey than the ecopure.
Did you try haing a drilling company work on the well and solve the problem all together?
  11. Long term report - the ecopure automatic filter has been a failure. It tin can piece of work great for many weeks, or just for days, then suddenly I come up home to a very hot house from the filter plugging and tripping the thermal protection of the units starved for water. The filter works nice to flush out the coarse sand that collects on the bottom, merely again I go these unpredictable slugs of fine silt that instantly foul upward the filter.

Another problem is the filter housing doesn't accept ridges with a filter wrench like a traditional cartridge filter. It can be difficult to go off with a strap wrench which slips easily on the smooth plastic although I doubtable an oil filter wrench would grip improve.

End event is I'm going to get a Sandmaster Plus and be washed with it.

  12. Seems like the stop result nosotros normally hear from customers who have gone with the ecopure filter. I wou still propose you lot have a local driller look at your well before dropping the bills downwardly on a sand main plus. This could exist a unproblematic fiix inside your system to prepare the sand at the source. All sediment filters are just bandages for a bigger issue.

    I agree with that sentiment.

Perhaps pumping the well hard for a few days would "develop" information technology to the point where sand and silt would cease being entrained.

Open loop water volumes are so dandy that any required filtration is going to be a conduct.
